                          _What's the difference?
People will often ask me, "If they are all considered to be toy poodles then what's the difference?"

Teacup poodles are the smallest within the toy size category.  They are usually between 3-4 pounds.  They stand 8 inches or smaller (from the withers).  Teacup (toy) poodles are fine boned little dogs and as such do not make good pets for families with young children.  Even well behaved children are faster, less careful, and less aware of potential dangers to these tiny little dogs.  Teacup poodles do make fantastic pets for:
                          • Quiet laid back families either with older children
                          • Families with grown or whose kids off to University
                          • Folks that work from home
                          • Single adults who enjoy the company of these tiny little fur babies
                          • People who travel often & would enjoy a tiny companion along for trips (teacups learn to travel well in cabin)
                          • Newly retired families & empty nesters
                          • And folks who like to take life at a slower stride and have the time to spend with a tiny fur baby
Teacup poodles can not keep up with young children and learn to be cautious of them, and unfortunately will often learn to avoid them.  The smaller the dog is the bigger the world looks to them, so it is not uncommon that many teacups are naturally more cautious puppies, then those that are slightly bigger then them. Although teacups are fragile and tiny.  Teacups do make wonderful little companions when placed in the right family.   They are easy to tuck away in a carrier and whisk away when you run errands.  They are a joy to dress up and they love to prance around like little Prince and Princess's.  Many single folks opt for these doll faced pets.  Teacup poodles eat a fraction of what the slightly bigger toy and tiny toy poodles eat, their poops and piddles are a teenie tiny so it makes for super quick clean ups.  Even grooming expenses are less.  Unfortunately the initial cost of adopting a teacup poodle puppy is quite high.  These tiny moms have tiny litters of 1-2 puppies and so it requires 3- 6 teacup mommies to produce what 1 full size toy mommy would produce.  The result is teacup breeders having to incur more expenses (vet bills, vaccines, and cesareans).

Teacup size puppies also require alot more extra TLC from the breeders who raise them.  The cost of raising teacups is much higher to as they have high needs requiring heating pads, or heat lamps, and often requiring supplementation feedings) = fewer pups per litter but more expenses = a higher price to pay for teacups puppies.  Feel free to ask me questions about teacup poodle puppies.  I love talking about my babies, so no question is silly.  Please click here to read more about teacup poodles.

Tiny toy poodles are in between the teacup and full size toy and so most families seek this size as an alternate to the teacup size pups.  Tiny toy pups are really the best of both worlds.  Tiny toy poodles are 4+ pounds to under 6 pounds and they stand between 8 - 9inches (from the withers).  They are less fragile then teacup poodles and are really the smallest pups I would ever recommend/adopt to a family with children.  They do need to be handled with care (all puppies do really).  These little poodles may learn to trust and tolerate children if well socialized with well manner children (and trained from the beginning).  Tiny toys do much better with children then the teacup size.  Once these little pups are all grown up, they are beautiful little dogs that both young and old can enjoy.  Tiny toy poodles are the perfect alternative for families who seek to have the smallest dogs but have children.

Full size toy poodles are still quite small, weighing between 6-10 pounds and standing only 9-10 inches tall from the withers.  They are definitely the hardiest of the bunch and I encourage families with children to consider my full toy size poodle puppies.  They are beautiful little puppies who are well adjusted and the most solid of the three sizes.  Toy poodles are wonderful with children and will often seek them out to play with them.  They make amazing companions, and are usually the life of the party.  Contrary to what some may believe, poodles are not hyper, yappy dogs.  On the contrary, in fact poodles are known to be majestic, agile and highly intelligent dogs by nature.  It's amazing how well they adjust to their owners lifestyle.  If your lifestyle is hustle and bustle, on the go, go, go...  This is the perfect size choice for you.   They enjoy long walks, but do not require them.  If you have a slower paced lifestyle these little dogs will be happy to warm your lap all day long.  Although toy poodles do not require alot of exercise, daily walks are always a healthy choice to help clear the mind for both canine and human.

Its a known fact that dogs who are walked daily are easier to house train (and train in general).  They have a healthier mind set and are much less destructive (especially during their teething, and adolescent stages).
