Adopting your puppy from us here at Poodle Love

Picture

When you decide to adopt your puppy from us ~ a few important things happen.
1. You have decided that you are able to take on the emotional and financial responsibility of caring for a puppy for the next 10-15 years +.

2. You have done your homework and understand the responsible choice is to adopt a puppy from a clean, loving, ethical breeding home.

3. You agree to keep in touch with us and update us on how our puppy is developing.

Before you adopt a puppy...

Deciding to adopt a puppy should not be an impulsive decision.  There are many things that need to be considered.  Such as...

Financial part of owning a puppy?  Annual vaccines, vet check, collar, leash, grooming, toothbrush, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention, food bowl, food, bed, toys, spay or neuter costs, puppy training classes (a must to keep your puppy well socialized with other dogs).

Time & patience...  Owning a puppy can be time consuming and challenging at best.  Will you have time and patience to train the puppy?  Have you looked into puppy classes in your neighborhood?  It is a good idea to introduce yourself to the trainer and ask when the next puppy classes begin and best time to enroll?  When training your puppy you need to establish routine.  Where will the puppy sleep?  Who will be responsible for daily walks?  Who will be scooping the poop?  Brushing the puppy?  Feedings at the same time everyday... What puppy food choices has you chosen?

Do you know how to puppy proof your home?  Will you be crate training (pros and cons)?  Do you have a veterinarian in your area?  Have you called to check pricing, services?  Does everyone in your home want the puppy?  Are there any allergies?  Do you have a fenced yard?  Are pets allowed where you currently reside?  Do you anticipate a move? Do you have a puppy sitter?  Will you be taking your puppy with you when you go on holidays?  Do you know that we offer exclusive boarding for puppies that have been born here at Poodle Love?

If you are still with me...  do you still want a puppy or is your head spinning.  This is just the tip of the iceberg.  Owning a puppy is hard work!  Much like having a baby.  A puppy has many needs.  If you feel that you are able to provide a loving forever pet home for a puppy then you just may have found the right place to come and fall in love.  Welcome to Poodle Love Puppies.  We can't wait to meet with you and your family.

Are there any health guarantees that comes with our puppy?

We have each and every puppy vet checked, dewormed, and vaccinated before they leave our home.  This by no means means that they are protected against harmful parasites, viruses and bacterias.  Puppies require 3 sets of vaccines before their immune system has built up enough antigens to protect themselves.  When our puppies leave here they often are only old enough to have received one set of vaccines.  You then will be responsible for following up with your own veterinarian and complete then next two sets.

You should always have a stool sample done at each and every vet appointment.  As some test results can be false negatives.  You want to do your very best to protect your puppy.

We do our best to breed healthy dogs.  Our dogs are vet checked regularly, vaccinated to date and dewormed twice a year as a preventative.  A healthy diet consisting of a high quality grain free dry kibble, fresh fruits and vegetables, and our homemade chicken soup is a given daily.  Our little dogs are also groomed regularly by both myself (many moons ago I worked as an assistant groomer) and our local professional groomer.  It is our absolute pleasure to love, and care for our furry friends daily.  Our dogs do not live in cages or kennels they are part of our family and live in our home.

Our promise to you is... to provide a clean, loving, safe and nurturing environment in order to give your puppy the very best start in life.  Every puppy is vet checked, vaccinated and dewormed before leaving our home.   We provide a copy of that health certificate to each family that adopts one of our puppies to ensure that we have done our part to provide you with a healthy puppy.

We can also assure you that the parents of these puppies have been optigen tested and have had their vet checks ensuring that they are in optimal health and able to produce the healthiest pups.  This is really all any ethical breeder can do.  I can not extend false guarantees as anything can happen.  Much like when you bring your own new born baby home.  No guarantees, just nurture and care for your baby.  Baby proof your home, feed him well, love your baby and take him to the pediatricians office for vaccinations to help prevent illnesses.  Same deal here, with the exception that we have gone one step further for you.  We will only breed parents that have been genetically tested to avoid issues that could be prevented.  Adopting your puppy from an ethical breeding home is essential to enjoying a long friendship with your newest furry companion.

Once you have picked up your puppy, it then becomes your responsibility to keep your puppy healthy.  Take your new puppy to your own vet's clinic at your earliest convenience.  Take a stool sample in to rule out any common puppy parasites or stress related issues that may sometimes pop up (despite our best efforts).   Puppies are notoriously curious and have a healthy appetite for learning.  Therefore they get into things in the back yard where local critters also reside.  We do our best to keep our yard clean.  All efforts help to reduce the chances of them catching little buggies.  When puppies are in public areas (the park, puppy classes, the vet's office (where we know all the sickies go), they can pick things up.  This is why its important to do our best to have those stool samples done and repeat them regularly.  Also while you are at the vets office, do your best to keep your pup in a carrier or up in your arms the floor is the worst place to allow your pup to roam.

No one can guarantee that your dog will be healthy for any amount of time.   All we can do is breed genetically sound parents, boost our puppies immune system, and love them unconditionally.  Once you pick up your healthy puppy from our home, it becomes your responsibility to continue to keep that baby safe.  Ask your vet, local pet nutritionist or knowledgeable breeder how to add probiotics and prebiotics to your pups diet.  This will reduce chances of stress related diarrhea as well as help boost his/her immune system.
